Help the environment and save money with deconstruction. All of the material salvaged for re-use and recycling from your project is a tax-deductible donation to Re-use Hawai’i, a non-profit organization.
HOW TO DONATE THE MATERIAL FROM YOUR DECONSTRUCTION PROJECT TO RE-USE HAWAI’I

1. Determine if the donation value exceeds $5,000. In the case of a whole house deconstruction, the answer is usually yes.

2. If the donation is expected to value over $5,000, choose a qualified appraiser to value the donation.

3. Once the deconstruction is complete, Re-use Hawai’i will give you a detailed donation receipt that can be used to officially report the value of the material donation.

4. You give the donation receipt to your appraiser, who will complete the IRS form 8283 (non-cash charitable contribution form.) Your appraiser gives you thecompleted 8283 form, which you attach to your income tax return for your deduction.
